Impact Effort Matrix for Software Requirements Prioritization

The Impact Effort Matrix allows prioritizing the implementation of requirements or product functionalities by considering the implementation cost and its impact on the product. Our proposed matrix is tailored to the process of Software Requirements Management and product development. Therefore, we understand Effort as the Implementation Cost, expressed in Scrum Points, and evaluate Impact while working with the matrix using group knowledge and intelligence or through the "Kano Model" exercise. The latter helps structure the discussion about Impact.

Improv Prototyping

You can engage a group to learn and improve rapidly from tapping three levels of knowledge simultaneously: (1) explicit knowledge shared by participants; (2) tacit knowledge discovered through observing each other’s performance; and (3) latent knowledge, i.e., new ideas that emerge and are jointly developed. 

This powerful combination can be the source of transformative experiences and, at the same time, it is seriously fun. Participants identify and act out solutions to chronic or daunting problems. A diverse mix of people is invited to dramatize simple elements that work to solve a problem. Innovations represented in the Improv sketches are assembled incrementally from pieces or chunks that can be used separately or together. It is a playful way to get very serious work done!

LEGO Challenge

A team-building activity in which groups must work together to build a structure out of LEGO, but each individual has a secret “assignment” which makes the collaborative process more challenging. It emphasizes group communication, leadership dynamics, conflict, cooperation, patience and problem solving strategy.

Often done at the end of a workshop or program, the purpose of this exercise is to support participants in applying their insights and learnings, by writing a letter and sending it to their future selves. They can define key actions that they would like their future self to take, and express their reasons why change needs to happen.
