Energizers and Ice Breaker Games
Empires
This activity could work between sessions as an energiser or an icebreaker. It builds on participants' memory and communication.
Virtual scavenger hunt
A fun team-building energiser that encourages groups to recreate the scavenger hunt experience in a fully remote environment!
GIF challenge
Create space in your agenda for a fun online energiser where participants are encouraged to find creative GIF-based responses to your questions.
Get To Know You Better
This method helps groups to avoid awkward silence at the beginning of the session and instantly start a conversation. Ideal for large groups.
Make it Rhyme!
Even with established teams, it’s important to get people into the holiday mood and encourage creativity and collaboration.
Assign people into pairs or triads and each pair/triad needs to write one pair of rhyme for the music of a popular song. In this holiday-themed version, we'll ask participants to create a version of Jingle bells.
Whatever the occasion or song, it's a nice twist if they incorporate something in the lyrics that is related to your own company and culture.
Non-verbal improv
An improv game where participants must use non-verbal communication and actions to communicate a phrase or an idea to other players. A fun game that's a great way to open a discussion on better communication!
Pick a picture for how you are: a visual session opening
Open your workshop / session / meeting with a visual check-in that enables people to be there as who they are and what's on their mind:
- Every participant selects a picture representing how they are
- Take turns sharing how this cards represents them/their mood/situation
Questions Only
A classic improv game designed to encourage creative thinking, develop improvisation skills, and energize a group - great to break the ice and generate laughter with minimal set-up!
Sink or... sail, swim, surf and scuba!
This fun activity allows participants to follow instructions on a MURAL whiteboard to perform a variety of activities and eventually share their name and location. You can use this as a short ice-breaker or energiser (remove some of the activities) or as either pre-work or an opening activity to make sure that everyone knows how to use MURAL before an online session begins.
A MURAL template is included for you to use and modify as you wish (at the bottom of this method).
Follow the Follower
One person is designated as the leader. Others copy exactly how the leader moves. The leader calls on a new person to be the leader, and so on. Follow the follower variation is when the leading gets passed to the entire group and no single person is leading.
