We’ve recently completed our SOC 2 Type II attestation at SessionLab.

This is a major security milestone for SessionLab, but it goes further. It reflects something broader about how facilitation work is evolving, and what teams increasingly expect from the tools they rely on.

Being SOC 2 Type II certified helps us meet those expectations, so teams can confidently use SessionLab as a shared workspace for designing, managing, and scaling high quality facilitation.

Let's explore why this matters and explain SOC2 type II attestation in a little more detail.

What is SOC 2 compliance?

SOC 2 is an internationally recognized compliance framework focused on how organizations protect customer data. It looks at security not just from a technical perspective, but across systems, processes, and everyday operations.

There are two levels of SOC 2 report.

Type I assesses whether security controls are designed appropriately at a specific point in time.

Type II is more robust and evaluates how those controls operate consistently over an extended period.

Completing SOC 2 Type II means we have demonstrated, through independent audit, that SessionLab’s security and organizational controls are not only in place, but operating effectively over time.

At SessionLab, becoming SOC2 Type II compliant is an ongoing commitment to security. It touches how we build our infrastructure, how we operate, and how we handle your data day to day. It is one of the ways we aim to earn and keep the trust of everyone who relies on SessionLab, whether they work independently, in a consultancy, or inside a large organization.

Why this matters

There are two sides to why this milestone matters to SessionLab and to our users.

Over the past years, we’ve seen more and more large organizations adopt facilitation as a core capability. These teams use SessionLab to run leadership programs, strategy processes, change initiatives, and learning journeys at scale. As this happens, expectations around trust, reliability, and data protection naturally rise as well.

We believe SessionLab can transform how large organizations manage training programs and design workshops. With SOC2 type II compliance, your buying team can rest assured that your data is handled securely.

In practice, this helps innovation teams and learning managers easily scale and create change inside their companies, rather than remaining a niche or ad-hoc practice.

Second, this also matters for all those freelance facilitators and consultancies using SessionLab with their clients.

Many independent practitioners use SessionLab to collaborate closely with internal teams in large companies. In those situations, it is useful to be able to reassure clients that the tools used in workshops and training programs meet widely accepted security standards. Visible, third-party assurance can help remove roadblocks and help everyone focus on the actual work of collaboration, learning, and change making.

The foundation for facilitation at scale

Facilitation relies on trust. Trust between participants, trust in the process, and trust in the environments where collaboration happens.

As facilitation becomes more embedded in organizations, the tools supporting that work also need to earn that trust. Not just through good design and usability, but through clear, verifiable commitments to reliability and data protection.

SOC 2 Type II compliance is one part of how SessionLab supports that foundation. It helps ensure that facilitators, teams, and organizations can focus on meaningful conversations, learning, and decisions, without worrying about whether the underlying systems are up to the task.

For SessionLab, this milestone is not a one-and-done security assessment. It’s another step in making facilitation easier to adopt, easier to scale, and easier to trust. Whether you’re a consultant working with big multinationals or a learning designer want to scale securely.
