Instructions

Demo - about 3 minutes

Start off with something like: "We all have a reason to be here today. Let's call this our conscious reason why we are here. But our subconscious mind also plays a part in why we are here."

Select one individual and ask them to stand up, position them by placing your hands on their shoulders. Say: "You are the reason I am here." Next position your self. Say: "The reason I am here is ..."

Select another individual and ask them to stand up, position them by placing your hands on their shoulders. Say: "You are the real (or subconscious) reason I am here." Next position your self. Go inside and feel what is happening in yourself. Connect with th sub conscious and say: "The real reason I am here is ..."

Be genuine as a facilitator and let you yourself be surprised about the real reason you are at the current workshop.

Dismiss the individuals by thanking them and asking them to return to their seats.

Group work - about 10 - 15 minutes

Explain to the group that they will work in small groups of three (or four with an observer) and tell them to repeat the same process for each of the individuals in the sub-group as you just showed.

Debrief (optional) - as much time as you think is appropriate

If you want you can debrief depending on whether you want to do anything with the outcome. You might ask a few people to reflect on what they learned or ask everybody to make a few notes for themselves with regards to what they just experienced.
