The Team Is – Is Not – Does – Does Not helps define a team. Sometimes, it’s easier to describe something by saying what this thing is not or does not do.

    Instructions

    Running the activity:

    1. Divide a white canvas in four areas (Is / Is Not / Does / Does Not).
    2. Write the name of the team above the quadrants.
    3. Ask each participant to describe the team on sticky notes and put them on the correspondent areas.
    4. Read and group the similar notes.
      * The team is…
      * The team is not…
      * The team does…
      * The team does not…

    This activity helps explain the team. Typically, after this activity participants will have a more consensual view of what the team does as well as what the team doesn’t do. The discussions that happen during this activity help the team to clarify strategic decisions, such as “this is something the team will never do” or “but this other one is our responsibility”.

    Remote-team advice: This activity works well for remote teams. Use a remote board of your choice.
