Collaborative Jigsaw Puzzle

I was using this approach when facilitating workshop on Continuous Improvement within my organisation. I saw another approach using this method and continuous with this sharing as I feel it was bringing across different message.
Goal
Sending the message of Collaboration, Communication and Curiosity via Game
Materials
Instructions
Preparation
- Place the Jigsaw Puzzle on the Table facing up.
- In certain jigsaw puzzle set, the base might have different colours, which is one of the indicator, prevent the learners from seeing that right from the start.
- You might want to consider using cartoon-themed puzzle to mitigate the difficulties.
- Remove few pieces of the puzzle and mix that into another puzzle.
Instruction to Learners
- Select a puzzle
- Complete the puzzle as fast as you can
Execution
- Highlight that the only rule is to complete the puzzle as fast as possible.
- Observe and let the teams figure out what they want to do themselves.
- If time is short, you can terminate the game when the teams find out about the mixture and get their pieces back.
Debriefing & Key Learning Pointers
- Ask about their experience and how are they feeling during the session.
- What's their immediate thoughts when they discovered about the mixture.
- Highlight on the following
- When we are working on our individual task, don't get fixated and exchange with other teams to COLLABORATE, we might find some surprises that help us do our work better.
- COMMUNICATE, we don't know what we don't know until we start to communicate and exchange with one another, open up.
- Be CURIOUS and start to look around to explore for different things. How you can help and what help you need and share.
