Goal

The Entrepreneurial Mindset Exploration activity encourages learners to explore enterprising people or ideas within their community. Participants will identify and recognize individuals who embody the components of an entrepreneurial mindset, fostering an appreciation for entrepreneurial mindset and inspiring their own entrepreneurial thinking.

Materials

    Instructions

    • 1. Introduce the Activity:

      • Explain the purpose of the Entrepreneurial Mindset Exploration activity, which is to explore and recognize enterprising individuals or ideas within the participants' community.

      • Emphasize the importance of identifying and appreciating entrepreneurial qualities in others as a means of fostering entrepreneurial thinking.

    • 2. Define Entrepreneurial Mindset:

      • Invite the participants to identify components of an entrepreneurial mindset, such as: creativity, problem-solving, risk-taking, resilience, adaptability, a drive for innovation and opportunity, Traditional knowledge holder, respectable, approachable, good listener, action orientated, community minded, helps others.

      • Explain how these qualities contribute to entrepreneurial success and societal impact.

    • 3. Define Community:

      • Encourage participants to define what "community" means to them. It can be their local neighborhood, workplace, educational institution, online community, or any other group they feel connected to.

      • They’ll use that concept of community for this activity.

    • 4. Identify Enterprising Individuals/Ideas:

      • Invite participants to share an example of a community member who is an entrepreneur, leader or Elder. This will help them reflect on their community and begin to explore how the person they admire got to where they are.

      • After this initial round of sharing, invite participants to continue identifying enterprising individuals or ideas within their chosen community.

      • Participants can use various resources such as online platforms, news articles, social media, community forums, or personal connections to gather information.

    • 5. Document Findings:

      • Ask participants to document their findings in a format of their choice, such as a list, summary, or in images.

      • Encourage them to include information about the identified individuals/ideas and highlight the entrepreneurial qualities demonstrated.

    • 6. Reflection and Discussion:

      • Form small groups or pairs, depending on the group size.

      • Instruct participants to share their findings and engage in discussions about the enterprising individuals/ideas they discovered.

      • Encourage participants to reflect on the impact and inspiration they derived from these examples.

    • 7. Identify Personal Connections:

      • Ask participants to consider any personal connections they have with the enterprising individuals/ideas identified. This can include experiences, lessons learned, or potential collaborations.

    • 8. Group Sharing and Insights:

      • Facilitate a group discussion where participants can share their key learnings, insights, and inspirations from the Entrepreneurial Mindset Exploration activity.

      • Encourage participants to discuss the potential application of entrepreneurial qualities in their own lives, work, or future aspirations.

    • 9. Personal Reflection:

      • Conclude the activity by instructing participants to individually reflect on how they can embody or develop entrepreneurial qualities in their own endeavors.

      • Encourage participants to set personal goals or action steps to further cultivate their entrepreneurial mindset.

    • Virtual: Provide participants with a list of online platforms, news articles, or community forums they can explore during the activity. Familiarize yourself with relevant digital tools to facilitate group discussions and information sharing.

    • Encourage participants to think broadly and inclusively when defining their community, considering various social, professional, or interest-based groups they are connected to.

    • Emphasize the value of diversity in entrepreneurial thinking, highlighting the importance of recognizing entrepreneurial qualities in individuals from different backgrounds or sectors.


    Tips for Localization

    • Encourage participants to focus on enterprising individuals or ideas specific to their local community or cultural context.

    • Adapt the definition and examples of entrepreneurial qualities to align with the cultural values or unique entrepreneurial characteristics of the participants' community.

    • Provide examples at the top of the activity of enterprising individuals or ideas that have come from a common community the participants all share or are familiar with.


    Debrief Questions

    • What were some of the key entrepreneurial qualities you observed in the individuals or ideas you explored?

    • How did researching entrepreneurial individuals or ideas in your community influence your own thinking?

    • Was there an example that really caught your attention? Why did it stand out?

    • Thinking about these qualities, how can you develop and apply these in your own life, job, or future plans?

    • How might recognizing and appreciating the entrepreneurial mindset in others contribute to fostering a more entrepreneurial culture within your community?
