The Leadership Compass
Goal
This activity aims to help learners explore their leadership styles using The Leadership Compass Self-Assessment tool. Learners will reflect on their leadership preferences, strengths, and priorities. By understanding their leadership style, learners can gain confidence in seeking roles and industries that align with their personalities.
Materials
Instructions
Introduction
Begin by introducing the concept of leadership styles and their impact on personal and professional growth.
Provide an overview of The Leadership Compass Self-Assessment tool, emphasizing its role in self-discovery.
Distribution of Materials
Hand out printed copies of The Leadership Compass Self-Assessment tool to each participant.
Ensure there are enough pencils and erasers available for everyone, or that everyone has a digital template to work from.
Tool Explanation
Read aloud the "Goals" and "Basic Assumptions" of the tool to the group for better understanding.
Go through each cardinal direction and read the prompts aloud, encouraging participants to trust their instincts and avoid overthinking.
Allow 20 minutes for participants to complete the assessment, followed by 2 minutes for totaling up their scores.
Group Discussion
Divide participants into groups or pairs.
Instruct them to review their scores, resulting "Work Style," and "Style Taken to Excess."
Ask each person to share their style and excess points with their group, and encourage them to discuss 1 or 2 areas for personal development revealed through the activity.
Allow 10 minutes for group discussions.
Group Debrief
Bring the entire group back together for a debrief session.
Facilitate a brief discussion on the overall experience and insights gained during the activity using the debrief questions provided.

Preparation
Print out a copy of The Leadership Compass Self-Assessment tool for each learner: Leadership Compass Self-Assessment Tool
Ensure an adequate supply of pencils and erasers.
For virtual participants, share the link ahead of time or screen share the document page by page.
Learners can compile their score on paper or you may consider providing them with a virtual copy in Miro or another whiteboard tool.
Technology Considerations
In-Person: No technology is required for this activity.
Virtual: If conducting the activity online, ensure learners have access to a video conferencing platform or collaboration tools for pairing up and sharing their ideas. Prepare the breakout groups in advance.

Review any challenging vocabulary from the quiz with the learners in advance.
