Materials

    Instructions

    • Give each participant a few minutes to generate a list of 10 qualities, beliefs, skills, or knowledge they believe someone with an entrepreneurial mindset would possess. Encourage them to think creatively and consider various aspects such as mindset, attitudes, problem-solving abilities, and risk-taking tendencies.

      • Example: Innovation, Optimism, Perseverance, Connection-Maker, Dedication, Resilience, Passion, Confidence, Creativity, Proactive

    • Divide the learners into pairs.

    • Allow the pairs some time to discuss and justify their choices to one another. They should explain why they believe each item on their list is associated with an entrepreneurial mindset.

    • Ask the pair to consolidate their individual lists into a single list of 10 main qualities, beliefs, skills or knowledge associated with the entrepreneurial mindset.

    • Option: After the discussion, bring the whole group together and invite a few pairs to share their lists with the larger group. Encourage a brief explanation of their reasoning behind each item.

    • Keep track of the pair’s suggestions and make note of how many are common across all groups.

      • This can be done by grouping similar answers on a board, putting a check mark beside common answers or using emojis/icons on a digital whiteboard.

    • Facilitate a group discussion to explore common themes and insights, and allow learners to contribute additional qualities, beliefs, skills, or knowledge that were not mentioned.

    Background

    Preparation

    • Prepare the activity instructions and any necessary handouts or materials (if applicable). Familiarize yourself with the key characteristics of an entrepreneurial mindset (as noted in the e-learning) to guide the discussion.

    Technology Considerations

    • In-Person: No technology is required for this activity.

    • Virtual: If conducting the activity online, ensure learners have access to a video conferencing platform or collaboration tools for pairing up and sharing their ideas. Prepare breakout rooms in advance to ensure a smooth transition, as well as breakout space on a digital whiteboard where each group can do their work.

    Additional Context

Before conducting this activity, it is beneficial to introduce the concept of an entrepreneurial mindset and provide examples to help learners understand the context.

Either this activity or the Leadership & an Entrepreneurial Mindset should be completed, but not both in the same session. It would prove to be too repetitive.

This is an activity that can be revisited at the end of the module/program to see how learners’ answers have changed/evolved over time.

    Debrief Questions

    • Did similar themes or qualities come up in the discussions between the pairs? What might these commonalities reveal about having an entrepreneurial mindset?

    • Did any items on your list surprise you or challenge your initial assumptions about an entrepreneurial mindset? Why?

    • How can having an entrepreneurial mindset help people in their personal and professional lives?

    • Do you know any real-life situations where a person's entrepreneurial mindset resulted in innovative projects or businesses?

    • How can we use the traits linked to an entrepreneurial mindset in our own lives and endeavors?
