Additional info

Goal

It's an ice-breaker and can be done with people who already know each other, because the novelty will be in hearing each other's metaphors.

It is also useful to tie into with leadership themes throughout the seminar.

Instructions

Before

No pre-work required.

May refer to metaphors in NLP terms

Frame and set-up the ice-breaker in such a way that technical people, who just maybe possibly are not used to communicating in metaphors, can value the exercise and easily come up with a metaphor.  Tie in with leadership themes throughout the seminar or facilitated event.

During

Ask the group to take a minute and think of a metaphor or symbol for themselves as a leader. Then they can introduce themselves to others in the group speaking as their metaphor (associating into the metaphor in NLP terms). For example, "I am a lighthouse. I shine out so people on their journeys have a reference and can find their way."

After

Follow-Up Required: none
